It was over two hours later when Angela crept out of Martin’s bed and pulled on her jeans and sweatshirt. She held her boots in one hand, and her bra and knickers in the other. Martin stirred, and she bent and kissed him on the cheek.

“I’m going back to my own room now,” she whispered.

She stepped out into the corridor. She knew if she encountered any other guests they’d know exactly what she’d been doing, but made it back to her own room without meeting anyone. She’d left her phone on the bed, and when she checked it she saw she had three missed calls and two texts, all from Jamie. It was now after two-thirty—much too late to call him. Angela dropped the phone back onto the bed, stripped off her shirt and jeans and walked into the bathroom.

She looked at herself in the mirror and saw her cheeks were pink; this could have been due to the drink, the sex, or friction from Martin’s beard. There was dried semen in her hair. Her nipples were still erect, and she was leaking fluids from between her legs. In spite of all this, Angela felt strangely calm. She knew what’d happened earlier had been a one-off, and that she would never mention it to Jamie. She felt no guilt. It was a surreal feeling, almost as if she believed it’d been out of her control, blaming the concoction of drink, drugs and stress that had affected her reasoning and inhibitions. She told herself she hadn’t done anything wrong—it had been Angelica who’d spent two hours having filthy sex with a stranger. Maybe tomorrow she’d feel differently, but for now Angela could file it away as something that had happened to somebody else, almost like an out-of-body experience. She had a quick shower, brushed her teeth and climbed naked into bed. She was fast asleep within five minutes.
